Olympus to Focus on Single Lens Reflex Cameras

Olympus announced on November 9 that its digital camera unit will focus more on high-end single lens reflex cameras and move away from compact models. In 2004 compact models accounted for 72% of sales in its digital camera unit and single lens reflex models accounted for 3%. Within five years the company hopes to changes these two figures to 40% and 30% respectively. Furthermore, the company stated that it will stop producing portable digital music players, as it faces stiff competition from other makers such as Apple and Sony.
